Column Addition/Schriftliches Addieren

Our squirrel  Bun (inspired by Emerson's fable-poem) is helping with learning how to do column additions with carrying.

Little Bun is storing nuts for the winter in the forks of trees and in hollows.

His forks of trees can only hold ten nuts.  Whenever there are more than ten, Bun carries 10 over to the hollows.

In the end, he has 20 nuts in each of his two hollows, and six nuts in one fork of the tree and seven in the other.  He adds those together (13) and stores an additional 10 nuts in his tree hollows.  He then has three nuts left on his fork of the tree.  Tomorrow we will play similar situations and then see how this will look in writing.
