Most people/Die meisten Leute

get a cold/flu in the winter and not during the last weeks of May.  I guess our five hour march through Buffalo in the cold last Friday did us in.  Veronika and I felt pretty awful yesterday, Miriam was in bad shape on Monday.  The others are sneezing to various degrees.  Not a good idea to do this during the final rehearsal/dress rehearsal week of Swan Lake!  Veronika missed one rehearsal yesterday, Jonathan, Charlotte, and Miriam went taking lots of Kleenex with them.

Most people do get poison ivy in the warmer seasons, so we did it right here: Charlotte has a case right in her face.

Most people clean up when company is coming, I had the best intentions to do so for our visitors this coming weekend, but maybe we should invite them to help us clean up and clean instead?

Most college students study the night before the exams, and my children seem to be no exception.  Jonathan and Charlotte were up late last night studying for their second botany exam discussing, among many other topics, pears with the following review questions:

  1. Know the species names for pears.
  2. What is the origin of pears?
  3. What are perry pears?
  4. Know that some pears are parthenocarpic, some are not self-fertile, and some need pollination from other pear groups.
  5. How are Asian pears different?
  6. Know about stone cells in pears.
They went to a farm yesterday afternoon and today they are going to the botanical gardens.  They both got an A on their first exams, quite an achievement for a 14- and 16-year-old in a college class considering that some fellow students got an F.

  1. Sie müssen die Artennamen von Birnen wissen.
  2. Woher kommt die Birne?
  3. Was ist eine Perry Birne?
  5. Warum sind Nashi-Birnen anders?

No pictures today, I do have a lot, especially from our Buffalo trip, but first we all need to get healthy again.

    1. Thanks, Christine. We all do feel better, just Peter has lost his voice and we still need a lot of Kleenex, but the flu-like symptoms are gone. So we do hope that the recital will go well tomorrow.

  2. Gute Besserung!
Poison ivy-Ausschlag, wie sieht das aus? Rote Pusteln?

    5. Komisch, das mit der Stimme. Wir anderen haben diese Probleme bisher nicht.

    1. I have marveled at your sewing productivity. It looks all so professional, but I haven't had a chance to comment yet. Keep up the good work, but don't get overworked.

Thanks for your compliments. Peter's parents are visiting to watch the rectal tomorrow. They will be here just for the weekend.

    1. I am so glad. Flora insisted on folding it herself, that is why it was a bit crooked. I am glad Pip likes it.

  6. Hello Eva, Did you write about the Buffalo field trip? It sounds like it was quite an adventure walking around for five hours!! I hope all of you are feeling well again soon . . I hope you are all able to get good sleep! It's nice that Charlotte and Jonathan have each other to study with and help each other acquire good study habits. Congrats to them :)

There have been days when I've wanted to clean for guests but just haven't been able to. It's then I'm thankful I have good friends who care more about spending time with my family, then whether I was able to thoroughly clean for them. I like to remember the Bible story of Mary and Martha at these times :) (I have to admit I usually put everyone to cleaning as I do like my home to be straightened . . but sometimes it just doesn't happen).

Poor Charlotte with poison ivy! Please tell her I hope she feels better soon. I know how unpleasant it can be.

Hang in there with this crazy weather! We were so cold today after a very hot yesterday!

    Love and a big hug . .

    1. I did mention the trip, but haven't had time to write about it. We had a walking tour of downtown Buffalo and also visited Navel Park. It was very interesting, but also very cold, with a cold wind blowing from the Lake.

My in-laws are here, we cleaned up the downstairs, but not the upstairs. They are mostly downstairs so it is not too bad. Miriam, Veronika, and Flora helped me this morning and right around lunch Jonathan and Charlotte came back from their class and also helped a bit out. Peter was gone grocery shopping. Yes, that story is always a good reminder, but there has to be a a happy medium between doing nothing and too much.

I think Charlotte's face is better, but her hand/leg is worse. It spread there now.

It was really nice here today and is supposed to stay that way until Sunday I believe.

      Thanks for the hug!

  7. Dear Eva,
There's a lot going on for you all! Blessings and healings and good wishes! The botany class sounds outstanding-- great job to your scholars! I hope you can enjoy your visitors fully. We've all been there where the cleaning just doesn't happen like we would choose:) Blessings, Barbara

    1. Thanks so much Barbara. I always feel unhappy when it is cluttered and dirty, but sometimes it is hard to keep up.
